Istanbul Hotel Sumengen Recommended by Lonely Planet Travel Guide

Hotels - Sultanahmet & Cankurtaran The Blue Mosque (Sultan Ahmet Camii) gives its name to the quarter surrounding it. This is İstanbul's premiere sightseeing area, so the hotels here, and in the south and east named Cankurtaran and Çatladıkapı, are supremly convenient. Unless otherwise noted, the postal code for these hotels is 34400 Sultanahmet.

Hotel Sümengen (Tel(212) 517 6869, fax 516 8282), Amiral Tafdil Sokak 21, is an Ottoman town house with its own marble-covered Turkish bath, an airy and light restaurant with excellent views of the Sea of Marmara, an ornate lobby with parquet floors and Turkish carpets everywhere. On the top floor is open air terrace same fine views of the Sea of Marmara. The 30 guest rooms are small with tiny showers and twin or double beds. A few of the rooms have views of the sea but many rooms open only onto corridors, giving their inhabitants little privacy. Rates are US$70/90/110 a single/double/triple, breakfast included. Turkish baths cost US$10 extra.
