Picasso Exhibition in Istanbul
Sabanci University Sakip Sabanci Museum (SSM) hosts Pablo Picasso exhibition between
November 24, 2005 and March 26, 2006
"Picasso in Istanbul" will be the first major exhibition devoted
to a western artist to be held in Turkey, with 135 paintings covering each period
of his work, including the samples of his early paintings when he was a youngster
in Spain.
The exhibition brings together works from the Picasso Museums in Paris and
Barcelona, Lille Modern Art Museum, Fundación Almine y Bernard Ruiz-Picasso
para el Arte (FABA), and the family collections, selected by Picasso's grandson
Bernard Ruiz-Picasso. In addition, the exhibition will feature photographs of
the artist taken by famous photographers.
Picasso biographist Marilyn Mc Cullent carries on the exhibition and catalogue
works. The catalogue is prepared both in English and Turkish and includes the
articles of experts such as John Richardson and Michel Leiris.
In conjunction with the exhibition, a program of lectures, gallery discussions,
educational activities, and film showings will acquaint visitors more closely
with Picasso and his art.
Bernard Ruiz-Picasso-grandson of Picasso and the President of Malaga Picasso
Museim, Almine Ruiz Picaso - President of FABA, Marta-Volga Guezala -the representative
of Images Modernes, SSM Director Dr. Nazan Ölçer and Exhibitions Director Selmin
Kangal are the curators of the exhibition.
Picasso in Istanbul is organized with thesupport of Sabanci Holding, and in
cooperation with FABA and the French Cultural Center in Istanbul.

The museum is closed on Mondays and on January 1 and 10, 2006.

(Including audio system at which 25 of the works are introduced in Turkish and

Concessions 3 YTL (students, teachers, over-60s)
Free admission (Children age 14 and under, with one accompanying adult,
disabled visitors, with one accompanying adult, and Sabanci University academic
staff and personnel.)
